Our long experience in building and supporting websites is built into these carefully designed hosting packages. They include features chosen to help you order just what you need. Our shared hosting accounts come in three sizes (1GB, 5GB and 10GB) and three types:
However the accounts can be upgraded by adding additional 1GB add-ons to enable 2GB, 3GB etc accounts. The additional add-ons also come with optional additional Apache VirtualHosts (for hosting additional domain names) and, for database packages, additional databases. See the below for the packages and also more details on what's included and some technical details.
We are also able to provide hosting packages with pre-installed content management systems, the most popular being WordPress. We can also offer MediaWiki and can download Drupal 8 (it then needs to be configured using the web interface) and if there is another application you would like installed please contact us to see if we can support it.
Please note that our shared hosting packages do not include the provision of a domain name or setting up our DNS servers or the provision of email accounts. These things are not included by default as some clients use other companies for these things (for example Google for email or Gandi for domain names), but we can provide a complete, simple, package at a reasonable price to those who want us to manage everything for them — please get in touch to discuss your needs.
Shared hosting accounts are user accounts on our Debian GNU/Linux servers and a site refers to an Apache VirtualHost. The Static and Dynamic accounts don't come with MySQL databases, the Dynamic account allows PHP to be used. The maximum number of Apache processes per Apache VirtualHost is 160, 80 for port 443 and 80 for port 80 (using Apache 2 ITK MPM), most sites redirect port 80 to 443, it is rare for these limits to be reached unless a site has a huge amount of traffic.
All our shared hosting servers come with 16GB of RAM and 4 CPUs and we monitor usage to ensure that there is always enough slack to cope with the all the peaks. We allocate enough RAM for all the PHP on every server to be compiled and stored in RAM using OPcache, we also ensure that all the MySQL InnoDB files can be stored in RAM.
Shared hosting comes with all the usual PHP libraries, NodeJS and more and if anything you need is missing then please ask for it to be installed, the PHP details are on our wiki.
By default the shared hosting accounts come with SFTP/SSHFS access to the file
system and upon request this can be upgraded to SSH/SCP access, which comes with
tools such as git, drush, composer,
yarn and wp-cli etc.
